Nobody likes to feel out of his or her element. It’s much more pleasant to walk into any situation and own the day. However, having that happen all the time is a bit unrealistic. Sometimes, things just don’t go your way and you don’t feel like you are at your best. The good news is that doesn’t have to be the case all the time. You can become more prepared, improve your concentration with practice. By following these five tips to improve concentration, you will find that you are more prepared and less nervous, regardless of what your day entails.

#1 Go the Extra Mile

It’s not always those who know the most or are more skilled than others that end up on top. Rather, it’s the ones who keep going when everyone else throws in the towel. If you find yourself frustrated, lacking focus and ready to give up, tell yourself that you will do just a little bit more and try just a bit harder. This tip will improve your concentration and give you the boost that you need to get over the hump. Just like when exercising, doing just a little bit more at any given time can add up to a big mental boost.

#2 Compartmentalize Your Brain

We each have habits that either lead to positive or negative results in our life. When it comes to concentration, bad habits can really harm your efforts. Most people find themselves distracted by worries and concerns that spill over from all areas of their day. While at work, you can be experiencing stress and concern about bills or other household responsibilities. This interferes with your ability to perform at your best. Give yourself strict instructions to separate the various things that are vying for your attention. If you can’t do anything about your bills right now, shut the door on that worry until a more appropriate time. Mentally tuck things away that are getting in the way of your best concentration.

#3 Should You Procrastinate or Not?

Procrastination is the death-knell to concentration. It can knock down an otherwise productive day faster than almost anything else. Of course, procrastination is nothing more than putting off until later what you could easily accomplish right now. While it can be hard to get going, it’s a well-known fact that productivity and concentration snowball. In most instances, once you get going, the momentum will carry you well beyond what you thought you had in you.

#4 Develop Mental Cues

The brain is an amazing tool. In fact, that is so much the case that scientists barely grasp your full capabilities. What is known, however, is that your brain can be trained. When you find yourself in a situation where you need more focus and concentration, develop a cue that will kick yourself into high gear. This may be something as simple as going through a routine, such as opening your laptop and getting a cup of coffee. This cues your mind that it’s work time, shutting out all other distractions. Be aware, however, that you can also train your brain in the opposite direction. If you find yourself winding down on a social networking site, for example, your brain may be trained to turn off concentration when that happens. Be aware and use these cues in your favor.

#5 Live in the Moment

There are many reasons why living in the moment will help to improve concentration. When you are thinking about the past or anticipating the future, your mind is going in dozens of different directions. Stop and remind yourself that right now is the only time that is really yours.

Concentrate on what is surrounding you; not only will you perform better, but you will find more joy in what you experience.

Have you ever known someone with a “photographic memory”? Such people seem to absorb information faster than a paper towel absorbs liquids. But while it’s easy to assume that people with super memories are super intelligent, the key to their ability is in the methods that they use to remember information. By learning and mastering some basic techniques, you can also boost your memory. Here are some tips to make it happen:

1. Get enough sleep.

Sleep is our body’s way of “rebooting” our systems. Besides allowing our bodies to recover, sleep also helps our brains to process all of the information that they received during the day. When we fail to get enough sleep, our brains experience an overload of memory. Besides improving the actual memorization of information, getting roughly 7-8 hours of sleep nightly will also help us to be more alert during the day. And that will further boost our minds’ ability to memorize information.

2. Organize before you memorize.

It turns out that our brains work much like today’s computers do. The more efficiently we store information, the more available storage space we’ll have. So when memorizing information, store it into chunks that are logically grouped. Storing similar information together will improve the efficiency of your memorization.

3. Use visual and auditory input.

Our senses have a crucial role in creating our memories. Catalysts such as pictures, graphs, and recordings can help to make our memorization more concrete. These types of techniques are particularly effective for those who are “visual” or “auditory” learners.

4. Learn mnemonic devices.

These are techniques that make it easier to memorize information, and there are tons to choose from. One of the most popular and effective methods is the use of acronyms. For example, ROYGBIV is an acronym that represents the major colors of the rainbow. Certain mnemonic devices work better for certain people.

5. Make memorization meaningful.

It’s one thing to memorize facts and figures for the sake of doing it. It’s quite another thing to make the information meaningful. Make it personal and seek a deeper understanding of the information. These basic steps will help you to memorize more information, and memorize it faster.

6. Connect new information with prior knowledge.

You’ll be able to store information faster, by linking new information that you memorized, with information that you memorized in the past. By linking new information with old information, you’ll improve both your short-term and long-term memories. The most effective way to do this is by finding relationships between the new and old information.

7. Link information to your interests.

Even information that’s as dry as desert sand can become easier to memorize, if you connect it to your personal interests. Learning becomes much more enjoyable (and thus more effective) when it’s related to our personal interests. This will significantly increase how fast you can memorize information.

While not all of us are born with a photographic memory, by using these tips you can transform your brain into a super computer. Forget about needing to say “I forgot” throughout the day!

Until someone learns how to programme the DNA in our bodies and upload a checksum routine to restore them back to their original programming we have to deal with some changes. Around fifty years of age is when noticeable differences in how efficiently our memory works become noticeable.

First of all I must let you know, none of this is normally very serious and is in fact just normal. It isn’t as if the whole function of your memory shuts down, the changes are small, but nonetheless noticed. Their effect on your life will normally be minimal. This isn’t a debilitating disease that will constantly haunt your every waking thought, but something that occasionally you will be conscious of and possibly concerned about. It is just a time when you need to look at what you need from your memory and deciding whether you should be doing something about it.

Although most people get through life without really being concerned about it, it seems a natural and often a great source of humour when you uncomfortably forget to do something you’d rather not. Put in your own experiences here, I am too embarrassed to insert my own.

So most will not do anything and just accept it. These effects happen in a time of life where you have amassed a powerhouse of knowledge and experiences in your brain. Your brain has more work to do to keep it up to the standard you expect from it, but there is nothing really to worry about if you lead a healthy life.

What are the effects?

They are all caused by changes in the function and structure of the brain. You may notice a general and very slow depreciation across the senses.

With your sight you will notice that you are unable to focus as well as years you did before and glasses, if never needed before, will become a necessity for reading small print.

With your hearing, the sharpness of it will begin to dull. You may feel like all those rock concerts and rave parties in previous decades are beginning to take their toll on you.

With your memory, the effectiveness of storing information in your memory slowly decreases. It will effect how fast you can process all the information coming in from your senses and the efficiency of the process of recalling it back.

This is a time of choice, whether you accept this deterioration or do something about it. Having this happen to you is a great opportunity to learn what it takes to increase the power of your memory. If you previously have never used any strategies to improve it then this could be a great time of your life. It is possible now to find out how powerful your memory really is. You can learn now how to use it much better than ever before in your life.

Should you learn how to improve your memory? A lot of forgetful people actually get used to the state of forgetfulness. It’s possible that they may have come to view this condition as a normal part of who they are. You should know though that there are some very good reasons why you shouldn’t just let your recall lapses slip by.

One good reason to try to look for a remedy to your condition is to save yourself from a lot of negative emotions. When you forget things, you are making yourself prone to frustration and embarrassment. Just imagine how you’d feel if you’re running late for a corporate meeting and you just can’t recall where your keys are. If you don’t make the effort to improve your memory you could also run the risk of forgetting to close your fly or to brush your teeth.

There are more reasons to want to remember. One reason that is more crucial than anything else is the chance to earn better. Getting a good hook on some pieces of information can actually make you a top earner. Perfect recall abilities for example could help you implement what you learn in sales seminars or marketing course modules. Also, at a more basic level, being able to keep track of the names of acquaintances can give you a better shot at forming strong, cash generating networks.

Taking the step to improving memory capacity can also help you build a better image for yourself. It is no secret that people who can keep tabs on various pieces of information can’t fail to impress. This is true on both professional and personal levels. Imagine how capable you’d seem in front of your boss and co-workers when you rattle off a report without having to read from a document. You also will succeed at impressing potential dates when you start quoting details of shared points of interest.

Clearly, you stand to gain from taking steps to polish your mental retention. This realization however is not enough to help you actually find the right tools to help you learn how to improve your memory. Needless to say, there are countless resources both online and offline that will attempt to grab your attention. Each of these tools will propose a variety of solutions. Some suggest that retention depends largely on food intake and regular exercise. Other materials suggest strategies that range from new age to scientific.

Which strategies should you choose to help you out? This isn’t an easy question to answer simply because different people react differently to specific techniques. You might find that getting regular good sleep and eating nutritious food are enough while others might require more rigorous training. You need to actually assess yourself first before picking the best help option.

One great way to check the effectiveness of materials for improving memory is to read reviews. You’ll find a lot of valuable feedback from people who have tried products or bought instructional e-books. Customers will only be too willing to give you a heads up if a product doesn’t work.

Memory can be a complex thing to think about, but it does affect a great deal of our lives. Working memory describes a part of your short term memory that you can work with at any given time. You expand your performance through working memory training.

Memory is like anything else, the more you practice at it the better you will be. Having expanded access to the information stored in your short term memory can be a great asset to anyone, and you can add this skill to your personal tool box with practice.

Imagine you are giving a presentation to a group of 15 people. After introductions, you get up to present and everything is going perfect. Perfect that is until the question and answer portion. You do your best to connect with the group by repeating individual names in your answers. The problem is, you mix those names up! Oops!

Well this type of recall is a function of your short term memory. It was smart of you to repeat the names in the answers; this is a powerful rapport building technique. It was less than smart because you only heard the names once and had no training before hand to help you keep all of the names straight.

Expanded access to your short term memory is possible, as is improving the overall quality of your memory in general. Like I said before, it just takes practice. Working memory training is a huge subject with enormous benefits to anyone willing to make it happen.

Since this is such a huge subject, I have had to limit myself here. But you my friend, are on the brink of doing something great for yourself. Keep going, I have gathered some more resources for you on the subject of working memory training.

You can also get this information here http://www.squidoo.com/memorycoursehelp. I know you are ready to take this step, and I can’t wait for you to see how much fun you will have while doing it!

Important information sometimes just slips our memory at the most inappropriate moment, and unpleasant memories on the contrary do not want to go away into the past… “How could you forget?” – is one of the main female complaints to men. Before you even know what she is talking about and have a chance to open your mouth, as you hear: “You must not love me”. Even if a woman is wise enough to not say it out loud, she often thinks that way and asks herself a question: “How can I make sure he remembers important dates?”

The Japanese who are experienced in the communication rituals decided to simplify the task and invented a special device – a ring-alarm. At the date programmed beforehand it will start sparkling and buzzing, reminding the husband about the day when he had the first date or first kiss with his wife. You can manage with a regular organizer or a reminder on your cell phone. But all of these devices due to the same forgetfulness that got you in trouble in the first place can be left at home or in the car and then in the evening a real storm is awaiting.

There are a lot of jokes and proverbs about female memory. We all think that female memory is no good. However, research provides us with not such definite results. As little children, girls actually remember numbers and solve math problems better than boys do, since their hippocampus, the major component of the brain responsible for memory, develops much faster. By 15-17 years of age boys catch up with girls and both genders have their memory functions reach the maximum level of development. After that a gradual decrease takes place, which is the most apparent in women by 25-29 years of age and in men by 30-35 years of age. Therefore the claims about female memory being bad have grounds when it comes to women but not young girls. And even then if we look at different types of memory, it turns out that women remember faces better than men, especially female faces (some psychologists think that this peculiarity has appeared so that women could remember and destroy their rivals), as well as verbal information. And the latest research modestly presumes that male memory overall is actually noticeably worse than female memory.

No scientific data consoles the woman, whose husband forgot to congratulate her on their wedding anniversary. And the problem is not the memory itself, rather it is the spouse’s different attitude toward certain events, due to which they remember them differently. It is more important and convenient for a woman to lean on an exact date and constantly go back to it through remembering, making a note of and celebrating it. Such repetition and recurrence of processes is familiar to women since it goes hand in hand with the menstrual cycle, which constitutes the basis of female identity. For a man going in circle like that is not common, he orients himself in a linear way: the past has passed and the future is ahead. It is important for him that the event took place and when exactly is not important.

Besides, for women everything connected to the relationship constitutes the area of personal achievements, it signifies her status as opposed to male nature to pay more attention to career, income, and large purchases. That is why a woman remembers better the day she met him and a man – the model of the car he was driving. This difference creates ground for mutual irritation. When the partner does not remember what’s important for the other person, he/she takes it as disrespect to them and lack of their values’ understanding. It is doubtful for women that you have genuine feelings if you did not even manage to remember the name of her favorite cat or her birthday over many years of living together. In the majority of cases it is sufficient to take gender differences into consideration in order to solve the problem and not to demand something from your partner that he or she are incapable of doing.

There are certain things about mutual memories that will be kept better in the memory of a man or a woman. For example, men are good at remembering facts and numbers, and they do a good job of orienting in the area: there are a whole two genes that are responsible for that compared to zero in women. Women on the other hand have bigger brain lobes that are responsible for emotions. Therefore, for example, when we remember the road, men and women use different strategies and landmarks: men remember “the second turn right” and women remember “the café on the corner that sells yummy éclairs”. Thus a man can not remember what you were wearing at the date, but if you ask him where the date took place and where you went afterwards he will definitely tell you. And remembering the aromas of the flowers that were blooming at the time is a woman’s share of responsibilities to maintain the relationship.

Sometimes an unpleasant memory bothers a person, painful pictures literally rise before our eyes, endlessly reminding us about what happened – whether it was a serious loss or a small mistake. This way our memory wants to do us a favor so that if we have to face a similar situation again we could react faster and better. If on a date with a new guy you can not get rid of the memories of your ex-husband, your memory should only be praised: it wants you to be on the alert and not do the same mistake twice. Psychologists recommend “rewriting” the story of your life by purposefully extracting positive memories. For example, if you feel shy about public speaking, try to find as many situations from the past as possible where the speech was going well and you felt relaxed and alert.

Memory serves people as it can, even when it makes us forget something. When the circumstances are too unpleasant or difficult, the defensive mechanism of repression gets activated, which was discovered by Sigmund Freud. In the classic example from his memories he is talking about how after renting a place at the same spot for seven years in a row, Freud only remembered two restaurants nearby and did not notice the third one point blank. It turned out that the name of the third restaurant resembled the last name of his colleague, with whom Freud had tense relationship. Based on the long lasting self-research and work with patients he came to a conclusion that the repression can explain forgetting names, appointments, and promises. And even after 100 years we can confirm the truth of his statement that in all cases the basis for forgetting something lies in the motive of reluctance. It is easier to blame everything on forgetfulness rather than directly sort out the relationship.

However forgetfulness should not be always blamed on dislike. With age human memory gets worse as a rule, and it is related to a variety of reasons – first of all the worsening of the brain function. As a precaution we should lead a healthy lifestyle, be out on the fresh air more often, swim in a pool, try to absorb positive emotions from the surrounding world. We should make sure that we do not undergo constant stress and are not constantly overloaded – since it can lead to emotional burn out, which in turn manifests itself as a worsening of memory, the information we receive slips our memory instantly.

Besides taking care of your health and well-being in general, we should also give ourselves a healthy load. After 30 years of age complaints about forgetfulness are due to the fact that a person stopped training his or her memory and it got “out of shape”. In high school and in college boys and girls receive new information and memorize it daily, and therefore the memory is constantly “toned”. When work turns into routine and every day resembles the other one, the load on memory gets automatically reduced and therefore it needs to be trained. American scientists have found a pleasant way of improving your memory. It turns out that elderly people who drink three cups of tea or coffee and two glasses of wine every day have better memory than those who refuse themselves that. There are of course more sober ways. Do not rely on the organizer but instead remember phone numbers, foreign words, poems, and most importantly do it on a regular basis.

If you are reading this I am going to assume you already know the benefits of photographic memory training. I am not going to waste your time on why you need to make this happen for yourself, but I am going to give you somethings you can do right now to get started as well as some additional resources to get your training going. Sound fair?

Here is the first thing you need to do:

Drink Plenty of Water

There are many other health benefits to doing this, but what does it have to do with memory? The human body is made up mostly of H2O, and the brain is no different. That being the case, doesn’t it make perfect sense to keep yourself hydrated? Of course it does. After that:

Clean Up Your Diet

Have you ever felt that sleepy and dull feeling after a big Thanksgiving meal? Well, the average diet in our culture today produces this effect several times per day. Start eating more frequent, smaller meals high in fiber and lean protien. Stay away from processed foods and sugars, all they will give you is a crash after a few hours. Finally:

Take a Fish Oil Supplement

The Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish are remarkable. Fish truly is a brain food. In fact, a Louisiana State University study in 2005 found that fish oil may be key in protecting the brain from the effects of Alzheimer’s. If you aren’t already taking fish oil, now is the time.

I’ve give you some simple things you can start doing right away that will have cross over benefits into the rest of your life. Now, here is how you can get down to the nitty gritty of photographic memory training.

You can also get this valuable information here http://hubpages.com/hub/Photographic-Memory-Training.

Cheers to you and your future success!

Looking through web pages and books for the methods of accelerated learning I have here the basic and common methods that are used. Some seem to be inter-related but essentially I do not think any system can be effective without paying attention and dealing with the essence of these methods here.

Practice, Practice… Oh and more Practice

The most tenacious, but methodical, means of increasing memory of them all, you basically keep learning the material over a period of time and not all at once. Supposing that the memories get more established over time then the “little and often” approach wins over the “last minute” cramming over material just before an examination.

Practically Errorless Learning

The amount of information retained over time exponentially falls away, for example you will forget more in the first minute than the next and so on over an indefinite period of time. So this method concentrates on testing immediately, then test a little later, then a longer time later and so on. The great thing is that this method is practically errorless, because the learner will always remember most of the material at any one time.

What’s your Motivation?

If you really want to learn something then you will, if you have the motivation. This is the powerful force within us all that drives us to achieve what we want. A highly motivated person will learn better that a bored person. Which brings us to a related but subtly different point…?

Pay Attention!

This is when you are actually paying attention to the information you are learning and works especially if you find the subject interesting. In fact if you are not paying any attention to it at all it has very little chance of being remembered later at all. It was the Victorians who really put a lot of effort into repeating the information and learning by rote and this system was of no use if no attention was made to it.

Total Recall

This is like post-attention, putting the effort in after the first time something is learned; an effort is made to recall the same information. When this is done it strengthens the memory that was recalled over a longer period of time. So you are in effect paying attention to these memories later.

You got to relate!

If you personalise the information that is coming in and make it relate to you as quickly as possible it helps retain it in memory easier and more effectively. If the information has no meaning to you then often we try to give it some of our own meaning but this is nowhere near as efficient as understanding what it is that you are trying to remember. This increases as you become more knowledgeable specifically in an area or generally, the information become easier to relate to what you have already learned because more associations are available.

Encoding Techniques, Gimmicks and Tricks

These methods take advantage of the amount of information that is stored in one go and any connections between them. Learning a set of images takes the same, probably less, effort than to learn a set of simple letters or numbers. By encoding many of these, simpler bits of information into pictures then the memory can store more. Another range of these tricks is centred on using loci or hooks, by making connections with already learned material.

A system for accelerated learning then must have all of these usual methods for increasing the amount of information that you are likely to take in.

Shawn Du’Mmett is currently working on being a successful Internet marketer, purely to learn the skills of communication on the Internet and hopefully as a means of escaping any financial recession. His true passion however is wrapped up in uniting the world in a universal social collaborative system called Beyond One World, which is an investigation as to whether the world can work together, according to their highest ideals, equally, without any form of government or corporation.

He believes it is our responsibility, to ourselves and to others, “To be all that we can be” and is interested in any form of self-improvement. Accelerated learning is one he is investigating now, looking at what is freely available and what can be done to benefit from it.
