What is meditation? It is relaxing your body in such a manner that every single muscle relaxes with each inhalation and exhalation. Meditation has to be done in an atmosphere which does not have any distractions. This means you will have to switch off the TV, any music and your cell phone. You have to make sure that you do not get distracted by the outer world for the 15 minutes to 30 minutes in which you meditate. In this way you will be able to get in touch with your inner self. Many people are under the impression that you can enjoy better meditation with meditation music. Indeed, there are some chants, which soothe you, but the idea is to relax without any sort of distractions around you.
Some people can meditate even when they are walking, cleaning or gardening because they are completely ignoring the distractions of the outer world. Start meditating for just 10 minutes in the beginning. You should do it early in the morning. You could also do some easy yoga exercises to get your body cells moving when your blood sugar is low. These have to be done first thing in the morning and before breakfast.
Remember that good meditation is achieved only when you are not distracted. It is the easiest way in which you can get your body as well as your mind to relax completely. Look for a place where you are definitely not going to be distracted by noises. Sit in a really comfortable position, relax your body and start your meditation routine. Meditation is best done on an empty stomach so do not start meditating right after breakfast. This will make you feel sleepy when you need to be alert at the beginning of a new day.
