When I first started to get migraines I took powerful medication to help with the pain. I’ve never been a fan of medication especially migraine medication as I’m sure you are well aware of the side effects they can cause.
I’m sorry to say that I even let my daughter take medication on a couple of occasions when I couldn’t bear to see her suffer. Thankfully I have now realised there are other ways to help the both of us.
One thing that I can’t recommend enough is to keep a migraine diary for your child.
After some research I discovered that a migraine diary should contain many things that I had never ever thought about. But at the very least it should contain the daily activities of your children as well as what food they have eaten.
It’s difficult at first but after a while you soon get into the habit of recording everything your child does and eats!
Because there are so many different types of triggers that can set off migraines in children, it is essential to know what they have been doing and most importantly, eating.
Imagine if you had a diary of everything your child has been doing for the last 6 months. It would be quite straightforward to analyze the data and find out what things or more commonly what combinations of things trigger the migraine.
It’s terrible to watch a child suffer with a migraine but don’t make the same mistake I did and risk your child’s health by giving them dangerous migraine medication.
