To alleviate the stress you experience everyday at work, you’ll need to know how to handle the situations that come your way. Here are a few tips to help you get through some stressful situations.
Humor: The saying Laughter is the best medicine did not come to if not for a little truth in it. It is very effective for stress. When facing a stressful situation, try to divert your attention to something amusing. Anything funny would be great. Humor helps your brain function in a different way. It helps you forget whatever causes you stress, and gives you a new perspective on the situation when you get back to work.
Take a Break: Breaks are breaks. They break the continuously climbing levels of tension and stress while in the office. Taking a short walk and finding a place to sit and relax helps you clear your mind of any worries. Relaxation, even for just a few minutes, can go a long way.
Drink Water: Drink a lot of water. Do not rely solely on tea, juice, coffee, or any other beverage. Not only do they give you possible caffeine addiction or increase your risk for diabetes, it helps your body function better because it needs plain water. Also, dehydration contributes to loss of concentration.
Meditate or practice breathing exercises: What makes meditation and breathing exercises good is that you do not have to be in one specific place for it to work. Meditation helps you relax while breathing exercises refreshes your mind until you are ready to handle the stressors that come your way.
It actually depends on what you feel would make you more comfortable and what would immediately put your mind at ease. While some of these techniques might work and some might not, it depends upon how well you are able to handle stress and how well you are able to dissipate it when it reaches an uncomfortable level. The important thing is that you never allow stress to reach a stage where it starts to affect your performance and health.
