Stress Management Help: Self-help Stress Techniques

There are different forms of stress. Forms include emotional, physical, and mental. Stress is also a product of different factors. Since stress has been suggested as a cause of mental disorders and health issues, it is important to learn how to manage it. The only difficulty is there is no universal therapy for it since what may be stressful to one is not to another.

Stress levels for each person vary depending on the situation which triggered stress. This variation doesnt only exist on the stress levels but also with the coping ability of each person to address stress. Despite of these differences in stress levels and coping capabilities, all stress management techniques should start by analyzing the situation and look for the root cause which triggered stress and provide its solution.

Emotions are considered by many as what makes us human; hence, emotional stress is difficult to avoid. Emotional stress is usually caused by circumstances beyond anyones control. Example scenarios would be social defeat, relationship conflicts, breakups, divorce, or death of a loved one. Occupational or job stress is due to too much work for one to handle, losing a job, a close colleague getting fired, and other experiences. Stress can be experienced at an early age. Students facing exams and project deadlines are two scenarios of early stress.

Stress relief is usually achieved through relaxation techniques. Some just try to busy themselves with other things, such as sports activities or hobbies. Activities that are enjoyed, no matter how rigorous, have been shown to calm an otherwise stressed person. At work, stress is usually unavoidable. Yet some employees minimize the effects of stress by listening to music.

Another self-help stress technique is music. Music has always been known to be therapeutic. Some of the most common genres used for relaxation are ambient music, classical, and New Age. Classical music from Bach, Rachmaninoff, Vivaldi, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, and Brahms has been used to relax. In fact, plants exposed to classical music have been shown to grow better than with no music at all. New Age music is associated with the New Age movement, which is all about relaxation.
