Surprisingly Powerful Psychological Benefit of Meditation
Are you curious as to what this powerful psychological benefit of meditation is?
Of course you are so let me go ahead and tell you what it is…
Increased feelings of vitality and rejuvenation
While many different types of meditation techniques help you gain an increasing feeling of vitality and rejuvenation, for this particular example I will be discussing my overall experience with the particularly powerful meditation technique of Yoga Nidra.
A brief summary of what Yoga Nidra is would run along the lines of a guided meditation that has you lying down and in a way “surrendering to the facilitator”. In other words, during Yoga Nidra your goal is to simply listen to what the facilitator says as if they were inside your head and in control.
Anyways after a hard day of work doing whatever it is that I do, I tend to pick up the feelings, emotions, and general garbage of those around me in addition to my own stuff. Needless to say this often results in big time mental drag which manifests itself in the form of low energy and a need to let go of all this stuff.
Before my entry into the world of Yoga and Meditation I would attempt to let go of this “stuff” using a variety of unhealthy habits that I had to choose from, one of my favorite methods was stopping at a Fast Food restraint ordering an Extra Large Combo meal with a couple of extra burgers or tacos depending on where I stopped, then driving home in order to sit down in front of the TV and “check out” for the night.
While the above method did work in helping me forget all that stuff that I was holding on to it did so because I now had new additional stuff to hold on to, namely a couple thousands worth of calories and a mindless TV show. In other words, I was simply pushing all that other stuff down and still holding on to all of it.
Each day seemed to get progressively worse until one day I simply checked out completely and spent the majority of my days in an unconscious waking state with little vitality and in desperate need of rejuvenation.
Fast forward about 14 months into my entry in the realm of Yoga and Meditation and now after a hard day of work doing what it is that I do I still have a hold of all that stuff only now I have a healthy and empowering way of dealing with it which happens to be called Yoga Nidra.
Depending on how much stuff I’ve been holding onto and for how long I can oftentimes feel as if my body is separating as it is letting go of so much stuff that I’ve been holding on to.
Of course after the 45 minute session I feel a certain level of vitality and aliveness that lets me know that I’ve just experienced the state of rejuvenation.
Simply stated, once you begin the process of developing your own meditation practice you too will begin to experience the magic of more vitality as your mind rejuvenates in ways that you may have forgotten you even knew.
