What Part of the Brain Holds Memories?

Hi, I am wondering which part of the brain holds long term memories, the memories of your life not small things such as what to buy at the grocery store. Also can this part of the brain be affected by cancer? Which kind of cancer? I would really appreciate knowing the source of your information.
